Well the good news is my thumb seems to be recoving, though I’m still keeping it in a splint because it’s really sensitive. The bad news is a few days ago I came down with some sort of cold/flu or strep throat (going to doctor again tomorrow) that has really knocked me out. Maybe it’s the same thing as Om Malik and Matt Marshall. (Someone should do a Web 2.0 mashup of blogs, event calendars, and Google maps to identify Patient Zero.) The only thing that has allowed me to stay concious and not fall too far behind is Tylenol Sore Throat, which is one of the most amazing painkillers ever. My sister was in town and bought this for me and it has been magical, though it tastes awful. One of the biggest problems with sore throats is I don’t eat or drink because it hurts too much, which then gets you dehydrated and sicker. With TST I’m able to get some food and drink down and it also helps with the fever. Hopefully within another day or two this will run its course. ¶

Get well soon, my friend.

Geez Matt. Perhaps it is saxophone-related, because when I first started playing I noticed myself getting sicker more.
Maybe it’s mono… (And I’m not saying that in a bad way :p)

Matt, you should consider doing a Tylenol Sore Throat ad.
Hope you feel better.

Oh no, that really sucks! Hope you feel better soon

Finally some recognition…just kidding! I’m glad you moved up your doctor’s appointment, I was worried. I can’t believe that you can buy TST on Amazon – that’s crazy!!!! At least it qualifies for free shipping… I haven’t caught your creeping crud yet, but don’t tell work that, because I’m calling in tomorrow. I was stuck next to the most insufferable guy on the last leg of my trip, and he wouldn’t shut up – even after I turned on my iPod – so I couldn’t sleep. Why didn’t I sleep on the first leg of the trip? Well…you see, I hadn’t gotten a chance to see the Fantastic Four yet… **C looks guilty and does the “I’m such a sci-fi geek shuffle”** Love, hugs, and lots of get well vibes, Charleen

It takes 2 weeks to recover and it’s nasty stuff. My daughter is just now feeling back to herself after having the miserable sore throat for a week and the tired, draggy nasties for another week. Be sure not to push yourself hard….and feel better soon.
It’s flu shots for the rest of us!

Matt: My thumbs are really bad about getting banged-up and bruised. When you’re doing better with it, switch from one of the around-the-hand splints to a foam-and-aluminum splint that wraps around the thumb. Tape it up to keep the splint on, and you’ll find that your typing won’t be diminished significantly, if at all.

Reminds me of an old commercial:
BEFORE: “But it’ll hurt if I swallow”
AFTER: “…More juice please!”

I know another dozen plus people with the same thing. Had it since the day after the Web 2.1 conferrence. Was feeling better over the weekend, but now it is back. Needs more rest for sure – I think someone brought it over from across the pond or something…

Hey Matty… sorry to hear you got sick. I had pretty much the same thing 2 weeks ago (right around Web 2.0), and I still have a cough (which developed a week into it). I swear, it must’ve been passed around this crowd…

As long as there aren’t any suspicious dead chickens in your locality you should be fine

This sounds really weird, but it works for me: When you have a sore throat, try to “suck” all the saliva crap from the back of your throat and spit it out frequently. I don’t know why it works, just that it does.

Stop making out with Om Malik!

Even though Strep isn’t the nicest of bugs, be thankful it resides in your throat. Had it decided to take a trip somewhere else, you’d find yourself more uncomfortable.

The best sore throat remedy I have found is eating massive amounts of Doritos. No, I am not kidding. The large portion of MSG in the chips creates a numbing effect on your throat, while the chips themselves feel good going down as they scratch that itch in the back of your mouth. Seriously – try it.

Hey, I’m sick too! Let’s have a chicken soup date!
