The new results with Ask/Teoma are probably a big improvement. The big text is a nice change from all the web sites that insist on micro-sized fonts. My monitor resolution is 1280 x 1024 --- I can't read that tiny stuff!

I'll keep Big.com in mind for those late nights when I've been working at my computer for hours and my eyes feel like they're about to pop out of my head in protest. I also have a friend with seriously impaired vision that could probably make good use of this site. Good find, Matt.

Hi,

I'm the project manager for Big.com and I wanted to mention that we just launched (a few minutes ago) a new version which I think addresses the problem of poor quality search results mentioned by various people above. We are now using Ask/Teoma search results, which I think are pretty top line. I hope those of you who objected to the results quality will give Big.com another try now.

Also, with this launch we are providing a toolbar for IE called "Big.com Web Magnifier" which magnifies most pages on the net - text and images. You won't see it unless you go to Big.com with IE.

I know the font size is too large for some of you, but that's our whole reason for being. We envision Big.com as a search engine for people who need or prefer a large font. Someone wrote us to suggest we rename it to grandparents.com. Well... we don't want it to be a senior citizen search engine, but this person basically got the idea that we're not aiming to provide a tool for everyone. Big.com probably isn't for everyone, but if you know someone who could use it, we'd appreciate it if you let them know about it.

I've appreciated reading the comments here. They're very helpful. If any of you would like to communicate with me directly, I'm brad at snap dot com. Snap.com is our main search engine.

Wow. The front page looks very web 2.0. The problem is that the text is just horrendously big - why the HELL can I only fit three search results on my (1280x800 resolution) screen? The answer is crap web design - I want my search engine to (this may seem strange) display search results. The results are useless compared to Google's anyway.

Ok that is seriously cool. Does it have its own search algy or is it harnessing other engines? Either way, LOVE the big text, my eyes are very happy right now.

I just press CTRL+++ on firefox, and every site has the big text I crave. Oh, and I'm under 30 with 20/20 vision -- I just want to keep my vision that way. ;-)
