Well, I tried Freespire on virtual pc software. I liked it but I don't feel confident enough to load it on a REAL system yet... I just would like to have something familiar in case it goes belly up!

It's true that the timing was unfortunate and that he spends most of the review fending off likely responses from afficionados. PCLinuxOS 2007 now or Ubuntu 7.10 later would have been better.

But... will Vista SP1 ship before Hardy Heron?

Same here. I play with Ubuntu for awhile and must say 'not for simple user. Linux is for techniacal user or greek who have power to learn. Can not say "just work".
