Reger

Reger is a blogging system with different types of logs for every activity from running to what clothes you wore. It basically lets you attach certain types of data to posts and then graph it out. What’s neat is something like this could be implemented as a plugin for WordPress using custom fields.

  1. I’d love to see a plugin that would graph out jogging minutes and the performance of various exercises (sittups, pushups, etc.). I saw something like that on Dustan Orchard’s blog for awhile but I don’t think it was one of the secrets he was sharing.

  2. I’d love to see a redesign of how custom fields are built and look in WordPress. Once that’s done I’ll work ask Mr. Ranchero to recognize them in MarsEdit. Then life will be good. Yes Matt, while you’re unpacking, please consider the the entire datatype/field type issue.

For instance, the links have their own look and fields but that can’t easily be repurposed for books or movies or anything else (well, it can, but not as part of the standard UI).

I realize that if one backs up a bit too far one is just reinventing the standard weblog form as a more flexible database but I think that’s a good thing to keep in mind.

If memory serves, doesn’t MT or TypePad have something called “typelists” that are custom lists like a blogroll that could be about books, movies, or whatever?

  3. I have been working on a plug-in that will make use of the custom fields quite heavily, I was wondering if its possible to hook ui elements to the post form and then validate the submitted post for required data before allowing it to be published. of course I should be posting on the support forum and not here.

  4. Along these lines…I use a tiny Flash script to keep track of my knitting projects (you can see them in the sidebar in my reading journal.) I just have a PHP file with what I’m currently reading, what I’m currently knitting, and include it in my sidebars. (php file=current.php, top-level, percentbar script=percentbar.swf, top-level, should you wanna poke at the guts :D).
