I just got Apache 2 configured locally to serve all the different web apps I run locally (phpWiki, Tasks, WordPress, phpCoder, and some propietary stuff) as different virtual hosts with unique fake hostnames. I don’t know why this is a big deal to me, but it’s much cleaner. My local wiki has grown quite a bit, with hundreds of pages in it now. I’m not sure how I functioned before
I wrote a URL rewrite for my install that makes any directory below the docroot have a subdomain, which is nice. Apache is great.
Which wiki software do you use. I run a local installation of Apache on Linux, which I use as a testbed, and have thought of putting a wiki locally.
Out of curiousity, how do you use your local wiki? Elaine, he uses phpWiki…
Matt, could you elaborate more on this setup? It sounds interesting, but how are you using these apps locally? What are these “fake hostnames”? And yes, please enlighten us on how you use your local wiki
