It looks like the email stats thing was adding over half a second to my front page load time. So it’s temporarily on hiatus while I tweak my queries so it won’t be so slow. Have about seven thousand ham and twelve thousand spam in the database, so that may have been slowing it down.
Don’t forget to index the fields you’re using in your WHERE clause (and/or joins)!
It’s all DATETIME fields, is indexing those effective?
I’m glad! It was just depressing to see how much spam is being sent around.
It was interesting, though. But depressing!
Matt – i see that you put up the timely dozen on your sidebar again. could you change my url to my new one? i like seeing that i’m #1 on your list. š
In my DB experience (mostly MySQL and SQL Server), indexes can give you a huge speed boost, no matter what type of field they’re created on. I’ve even seen queries where the cumulative time of creating the index from scratch and then running the query was much less than the time of running the query without the index!
