Great interview of the guy running Hotmail, he talks a lot about the scaling of megaservices and some of the concerns of managing tens of thousands of boxes. What would you give to hear a similar interview by his counterpart at Google or Yahoo? Fascinating read.
He says he started working on the project about 5.5 years ago. It was around then that Hotmail ceased to be FreeBSD-based. Could they ever live with the shame? *smile*
I think there’s nothing wrong with using a Windowze box. Of course they are attacked by virus more often, but then again, that happens to all platform that isn’t well maintained.
