WordPress [actually Automattic] has scored an important victory in court against a man who abused the DMCA to censor an article of a critical journalist. The court agreed that the takedown request was illegitimate and awarded WordPress roughly $25,000 in damages and attorneys fees.

Yes! Good laws become bad when people abuse them. Here’s the source: WordPress Wins $25,000 From DMCA Takedown Abuser (s/WordPress/Automattic/).

  1. ‘Press on, Matt! This well-deserved victory will empower countless individuals around the world who simply seek to express themselves via the Internet. Congratulations from Chicago!

  2. Yes! It’s becoming completely obvious that most regulations to protect the public have in fact nothing to do with protecting anything but status quo industries and static business from fair, real time competition. And in their arbitrary and confusing leagalese babble the powers that be have create so many (intentional?) loop holes for injustice and unfair practices. I’m thrilled that WordPress would push the criminal results of vague and oppressive rules of compliance that leash freedom on the www and copyright laws that boggle the mind. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! Congratulations!
