And in Australia we have a system called myTax where if you have a straightforward tax return it’s a free easy to use web interface you can use to lodge online.
It’s basically a frontend to the full tax return, where you enter some basic figures, and the tax office figures out the rest. And, even if you have a more complicated tax return, the fully fledged e-tax software is also free (albeit proprietary and only runs on Windows or OS X) and pretty darn good.
