Great jazz cover of one of my favorite Kendrick Lamar songs, Rigamortis, which of course is inspired by the great jazz song The Thorn by Willie Jones III.

Normally, not a huge jazz fan. I’ll make an exemption in this case. Very cool.
Not a jazz fan, either, but this sounds cool. Made my lunch break.
Thanks for the introduction to such a heavy player. The fact that he won the Thelonious Monk competition speaks volumes in my book. Dude has serious chops! Love the Sony 7506 headphones he’s rockin’ in the video.
Very nice. I have been enjoying this Karl Denson cover of the White Stripes Seven nation army. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6N2cLHbnEQ
Great music to start the week!
Your post triggered a little exploration on my part and I stumbled upon another person named “Kendrick” you might dig: Kendrick Scott. He’s an awesome drummer who also happens to be an HSPVA graduate AND WordPress user, http://kendrickscott.com/. I didn’t expect that. I was also pleasantly surprised to discover that Willie Jones III is teaching in my own “backyard” at Northwestern University. Being clueless never felt so good!
Kendrick is great! Have met him at many gigs around the world.
You know your players, Matt! One final nugget: Geof Bradfield–another HSPVA grad–is really “on fire!” He’s a phenomenal saxophonist who happens to be playing at the Chicago Jazz Festival tonight. Looks like he switched to WordPress within the past several months (http://geofbradfield.com/). Just another artist on WordPress… Cheers!
