I’m not sure how else to describe it, but if you’re browsing this with a modern browser you should be seeing the first letter of the paragraph of a post in a large serif behind the text. This is something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while, but never got around to it. CSS is a beautiful thing. It can think of a few tweaks for it, but basically the hard part is over. I’m still debating over what font to use behind the text, but I have all of the letter images (which are PNG by the way) generated through a neat PHP script so changing the font or color is a trivial issue.
Let me know what you think! Font suggestions? Too dark? Too big? Oh, and thanks to Rebecca for helping me out with the initial letters. She’s a life-saver.
Very cool! It’s a little hard to read, though. I think the color’s too light.
So that’s what I made all those dumb letters for! And you DID find an easier way to do it! Oh well….at least I got some hours in, I guess.
I’m not sure that I like the letters; maybe a less formal-looking font would be better.
ehhhh… I’m not crazy about this new capital letter thing. They remind me of the start of a dictionary or an encyclopedia or a religious text… which would be suitable, you know, for a dictionary or an encyclopedia or a religious text.
Yeah, exactly what Julie said. So until you have your own religion….; )
So Julie, you think a more casual font would be in order? 🙂 I think it might be time for some cookie action to let people try out different ones. I’m going to change the main one for now anyway. Ctrl+F5 to reload it all.
Cool! I like it quite a bit!
