Podium Heights

“This is now a no-win situation because someone made a huge error that could cost the election. This isn’t rocket science, it’s broadcasting.” Dvorak strikes again.

  1. Dvorak’s multi-decade long love affair with the crack pipe continues unabated. I can’t imagine why misleading the American public with risers is somehow more “fair” than having the candidates simply represent themselves honestly. After all, if Bush weren’t determined to come across as a whiny, defensive six year-old child, it wouldn’t matter that he doesn’t have Kerry’s physical stature. Bush didn’t lose this debate due to podium height, debate rules, or any other equally superficial criterion. He was simply outclassed, in both content and presentation. It was absolutely embarrassing.

  2. I agree with Zama but if memory serves, Bush (according to spin) did better against Gore and I don’t remember such an offset in height. He did better by remaining calm and saying little and letting Gore hang himself in intellectual details.

Bush may be a moron, but if we (Americans) vote for him “I have seen the problem and it is us.”

I think Kerry did very well in the debate but it was his clear answers and flatter affect during cutaways that did it, coupled with Bush’s frustration that his one liners from the campaign didn’t elicit the kind of applause they did out on the campaign trail. I think his handlers forgot to tell him that no one could applaud. Duh.

  3. good article. my roommate was talking about that and i bet she’d love to see this, so i’ll pass it on to her. (she’s in UDems and other anti-bush groups on campus.)
