  4. Wow, that 6A article is depressing.

    Second, it isn’t possible to only accept comments which were actually submitted through the comment forms on your weblog. It’s not the form that connects to your comment script, it’s each person’s web browser that does so.

    Technically, you CAN make sure that whoever submits a comment has to “go through” your form, or at least access your form for each entry. (unique hash)

    And then there is:

    – Changing the Name of Your Comment Script
    – Don’t Send Update Pings
    – TypeKey

  6. John, myself, Anil and Brad collaborated on the original outline, John wrote the entire first and second drafts, then it went through several in-house editing phases wherein significant parts were added, deleted or enhanced. The entire recommendations and summary sections were written by me.

    We didn’t say you couldn’t try to make someone post through access to your form. What we said is that form submissions don’t go straight from the form to the server. They go through the browser. This was explaining to newbies why referrer information wasn’t 100% reliable. The browser (or submiting software) sets the referrer value and it’s essentially the honor system because the information isn’t not submitted securely from form to server. It’s submitted from the browser.
