  1. Thanks, Matt for the link. I thought it wonderful that an Indonesian linked to this blog post. Apparently his English is a lot better than my Javanese.

I meant every nice thing I said about WP in that post (& unfortunately I meant every not nice thing I said about TP). But I’m having a helluva hairy experience converting my TP underscore/.html links to WP underscore formatted links.

I know lots has been written about MT to WP link redirects and mod_rewrites but most of those Codex solutions & ones like those created by Alex King expect you to use your MT templates to redirect & convert the old links into the new format.

Since I pay TP $13/mo. I can’t afford to maintain that site any longer than I have to. So I have to figure out a way using domain forwarding, htaccess & mod_rewrite to convert these links (my TP domain & new WP domain will be the same). Otherwise, I lose 40% of my blog traffic (which is about what my traffic level’s been like since I started the new blog).

I’m even willing to pay someone to help resolve the problem. Carthik too has tried & so far his attempt hasn’t worked. I’ve scoured the support forum for answers & webmasterworld.com too. Nothing that I’ve tried has worked. I’m not proficient at ht access or mod_rewrite so I’m being held back by my own ignorance. But believe me I’ve spent many hrs. at this & would love it if someone could fix the final technical hurdle that would allow me to experience the full bliss of my new WP blog!

  2. Carthik finally saved the day. He’d written mod_rewrite files for my blog that worked at one time but were somehow overwritten in htaccess. After he rewrote those rules & reinstalled them into htaccess they converted the old links properly & now most people are getting through to my new blog if they’re using old links.
