Note to Self

Two things I’m going to blog publicly to get myself to finish them faster: First off, I really need to finish up the Automattic site so you guys can see some of the cool stuff we’re doing there. Second, I’ve been playing with some cool gadgets lately and developing some pretty strong opinions about them which I’d like to start posting and sharing.

  1. Any early hint on what you are doing on Automattic? I love cool stuff 🙂 Does it have anything to do with another WordPress related cool stuff? 🙂

  2. Tiny suggestion while I’m at it : make those sexy Akismet stats (15487879 comments and 99.5% are spam) available via an RSS feed 🙂

  3. Matt, quick question (well maybe not so) regarding .com. I was lucky enough to receive one of your golden tickets to the .com side of the house. As yet I have not used it but intend to when time allows. It is under the URL marc.wordpress.com.

Shortly after receiving that ticket I downloaded the new Flock browser and got the second ticket as a result, its url is briney.wordpress.com.

Here is the problem that has arisen. The “marc url” is called Ex-Pat Chronicles. The “briney url” title is Pickled Pundit. When each is called up they go to the correct url and display the theme selected and the correct title.

However when going into the “marc url” (Ex-pat chronicles) via the dashboard, or create new post via the topbar it directs to the “briney url’s dashboard. It also displays the sign out and “Hello Briney” message in the top bar and the “briney url.”

When I set up both they both worked ok and they have been sitting idle and I haven’t changed any settings that would create the problem.

Hope the description is clear and thanks for any ideas as to what the problem may be.

  4. I’m not Matt but I think I know what the problem is. You see each Golden Ticket gives you an account at WP.com. For each account there is the admin bar, so say you have the briney account logged in, and you post something there, you need to sign out and log in under the Marc account to post at the marc site. WP.com does not yet have a system to admin 2 seperate blogs under one account name. Hope that helps..

  5. I’m not Matt either but I had the same problem with gmail logins and got kind of sick of logging in and out of one or the other so now I log in to one address in Firefox, the other in Opera and can have them both open throughout the day. You could of course use Firefox and IE, Safari, etc. etc.

  6. I am Matt, and please don’t post WP.com support requests in my comments! I’ll delete it in the future. Use the feedback form on WP.com for that.

  7. There seems to be a trend, lately, of anarchy on the web. Just seems like nobody wants to post things in appropriate places, or, they want to post inappropriate things in inappropriate places. Or something like that.

  8. Thanks jtintle: That did the trick.

Note to Geren: What you are calling “anarchy” could be valid in many cases. In this case it could also be a function of not realizing there was anything resembling a support forum for the service. Hence I went direct to the source. But don’t let that stop you from a depositing snarky comments at will and for no reason.

Matt it won’t happen again, it’s your toy not mine. But when the wp.com site’s only offsite links are “Hot Blogs Today” and to wp.org and the only data input boxes are labeled as “Notify Me” and “Redeem Invite” and no “feedback form” is in view you take the option of going to the source, you.

So go ahead, delete all you desire.

  9. @Marc: if you log in to WP.com through your browser of choice (Safari or Firefox or whatever; I’ve never tried Flock…) you should see that there’s a big “Feedback” link on the Dashboard just below the “Howdy, Anon. [Sign Out, My Account]”
