London / FOWA WordPress Meetup

As per the comments on my last post the WordPress London Meetup will be on Thursday October 4th right after the PHP London meetup. The venue is called The Old Crown and it looks like the perfect spot, it even has wifi. I have to take the DLR from the Docklands into town so I’m planning to be there at 9 PM, which is when the PHP presentations should be finishing up and we can stage a WordPress invasion. If someone could post DLR / Tube instructions to get there from the Excel Center where FOWA is I think a lot of people would appreciate it.

  1. TfL’s journey planner suggests taking the DLR to Bank, and the Central line from there to Holborn, then walking. Total journey time about 45 min.

Alternatively, take the Jubilee from Canning Town to Waterloo, and changing there for Northern line to Tottenham Court Road station and walking from there, also 45 min.

It’s very much split the difference – option 1 is a little easier, but option 2 is probably a little quicker to be honest (DLR is not a stunning example of speed)

  2. Yeah was a really great talk! I took a fair few nots from it. I hate that I can’t come as I will be on a train back to Dorset down south but i will be there in spirit, using my TechJuicer.com blog! Which of course it WordPress powered but yet to be 2.3 upgraded (will be when I get home) 😉

  3. From ExCel take the DLR train to Bank.

At Bank change to Central (red) line (strictly follow the signs, it is easy to get lost otherwise).

On the Central line take any westbound train. Your stop will be the third one.

P.S. From personal experiece I suggest you not to bother with Jubilee and Northern lines. The interchange at Waterloo is very long, and Northern line can be very crowded and unreliable. In contrast DLR usually is very reliable and almost empty in that direction.

  4. Hey Matt,
So glad you were able to make it last night. It was a bit hard to find. I had trouble myself.
Great to chat with you and hear about all the great things you have planned for wordpress.

    Cheers,
    Nigel
