He has been called the “superman pope”, and it would be hard to deny that Pope Francis has had a good December. Cited by President Barack Obama as a key player in the thawing relations between the US and Cuba, the Argentinian pontiff followed that by lecturing his cardinals on the need to clean up Vatican politics. But can Francis achieve a feat that has so far eluded secular powers and inspire decisive action on climate change?

The Guardian on Pope Francis’s edict on climate change will anger deniers and US churches. Definitely the coolest pope in my lifetime.

  1. We had one of the worst winters in Lebanon so far in the last decade. The rain showers and the storms were really heavy. It is very hard to predict this kind of weather. It was not like this in the past. We used to have longer rain periods but less extreme weather. So there is “some” truth to changing climate.

  2. It is a shame that he has since tried to justify the behaviour of the Hebdo murderers in Paris.

“If my good friend Dr Gasparri says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch,” Francis said while pretending to throw a punch in his direction. He added: “It’s normal. You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.”

This is a child’s playground level of social interaction and unbecoming of someone with his level of influence.

  3. We all Filipino loves God so much & I thanked God that he sent his messenger our Holy Father Lolo Kiko (Pope Francis), were very bless to have him & all his inspirational homily & shared his life, time to be with us, that the big impact to our life!! Were never forget him he is always in our heart & in our prayer, thank you Lolo Kiko & all your guest & friend who help us to deeper our faith to the Lord..

I’m blessed to be one of the millions of people who saw the Pope Francis in person and join him in his concluding mass here in Luneta Manila. The Filipino Faith is waterproof!

“When you lose the capacity to dream and the capacity to cry you lose the capacity to LOVE” – Pope Francis

  4. We also need some scientific proof… there’s none by geologists and the CSIRO and BOM (the only two scientific bodies in the southern hemisphere)… they even point to research saying the ice is growing in Antarctica… ironically the figures that were officially published where multiplied by UN using a special formula to get the ‘real’ temperatures rather than the measured temperatures… #confusing there

    1. I agree that I hope the church’s stance on contraception changes soon. There is a lot of cleanup going on in general though, it seems, so maybe it’s just a matter of tackling one big thing at a time. Leading a 300 person organization, I definitely see how hard it can be to spread change, especially when something is pretty entrenched, I can’t imagine what it’s like at his scale.
