Thanks to the fine people at Buffalo Technology my Powerbook is now equipped with the maximum 1.25 GB of memory. The difference is amazing, like night and day. My efforts to completely switch my everyday tasks to the Mac have been hindered by the lower screen resolution of the 12″ and the sluggish performance. The screen size has pretty much become a non-issue with some monitors I inherited and Synergy, I assumed the performance problems were due to it just having a slower processor, but all my Mac friends assured me that OS X just needed memory to breathe. They were right. I want to open every program on the system just to watch it.
Two to Go
Four million down, two to go.
Bushisms
Reader Adrian Loudermilk wrote in that he
produced a DVD of all the Bushisms you’ve heard of. Like Bush or not, I bet this is pretty funny.
Contact Spam
My contact form, which sends mail to a whitelisted address so I don’t miss any messages, is getting absolutely hammered by spambots. They’re not hitting my comments and the contact form is something I wrote from scratch, but it has received over 200 spams in the past hour. The more they do stupid stuff like this the more data I have to block them in the future.

Flickr and WP
Son writes in that WordPress is listed on the front page of Flickr. Though I don’t use it myself for a few reasons, Flickr constantly wows me with its features, architecture, and innovation. I’m watching the service as it evolves out of beta with interest. Also one of their developers, Cal, has been helping out with WP a bit lately.
PM Clinic
PM Clinic discussion, a list discussing project management in the context of web development from the great guy who brought us UI Web.
BOM Problems
Byte-order marks in the beginning of files can output content before PHP is ready for it, a word to the wise. Just say no to BOM.
Dr Pepper Info
This unofficial Dr Pepper FAQ has more information about Dr Pepper than you could ever want, including instructions on how to get the cane sugar DP from different parts of the country.
Dr Pepper Museum
Went to the Dr Pepper Museum yesterday with Elissa. It was pretty neat, lots of interesting stuff, but the highlight was definitely the old-style Dr Pepper they sold. It’s made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar instead of corn syrup and it tastes amazing. I think you can order it on the internet (another site).
In Austin
I’ll be in Austin for a few days so if you will too drop me a note.
PHP Flash Graphs
Using this PHP and Flash graph tool I found via Jeremy I made this new stats page for Ping-o-Matic. If you hover over the line it’ll actually show you the data for that day.

Blogger Endorses Firefox
Just got this in my forgot-my-username-and-password email from Blogger, “You could also try logging in/recovering your password from a different web browser – we recommend Mozilla Firefox: http://mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Sincerely, The Blogger Team.” Very nice, but if they had recommended “gbrowser” then I would’ve had a real scoop. Also, they have a really great website. I don’t know how much is Adaptive Path magic and how much is in-house, but the result is a pleasure to use.
Interesting Traffic Graph
Check out this traffic graph with data from Alexa. Hack the URI a bit and you can put anything up there.
Very Pretty
This is neat: Fernando Graphicos has taken Michael’s Kubrick and built a few other very well-excuted graphic designs on top of it. Take a look:
It’s great to see one labor of love inspiring another. I can’t wait to see what these talented people do when the theme system for 1.3 is released.
More Synergy
Tor gets Synergy running. It can’t be that easy. Includes videos.
Costco
Costco wins loyalty with bulky bargains, I got this link in an email from my uncle titled “Why I Love Costco…” I think we have one of these in the area now, I had no idea they compared so favorably to Sam’s.
Badnarik for President
The libertarian candidate for President is using WordPress for his official campaign blog. Next time around we’ll get those silly Democrats and Republicans.
It’s a Sign
This is awful but I couldn’t resist, map of Florida counties and how they voted in 2000 overlaid with the paths of Charley and Frances.
