Community Tagging

Asides

I’m testing out a new community tagging feature, you should see a form to add people tags on photo pages now. Try it out, particularly on the Milan/WordCamp galleries – day one and day two. Proposed tags go into a moderation queue, so they’ll show up after they’re approved.

    Beautiful, Matt!
Is someone out there able to transform this into a plugin?

    Very cool feature!!!
Is it present in the developing version (2.6-bleeding)?

Cool! Was this done via a custom plugin/mod, or might this be an upcoming WordPress feature? :-)

Looks a bit like a modified version of the TagThis plugin…

You are implementing a folksonomy! bravo. WordPress’ default tagging system is actually just a taxonomy, not a foksonomy, but there is now a WP_Folksonomy plugin.

You can see examples of WP_Folksonomy in action at haibane.info and talkislam.info – just click any post permalink and scroll down.

I like the concept…tagging images changes a whole lot of things, especially when searching for them

    Holy cow! That’s awesome.

Any chance the tags can be linked back to a central database? So if you tag someone on one blog, it would also be tagged in another blog?

    Nice.

An enhancement suggestion: I’d want to really encourage (require?) taggers to leave at least private contact details so as to associate an “authority” to each tag submission and to be able to follow up on contradictory submissions, i.e. multiple people listed in different orders for a given picture.
