The Coffee Guy

I write this from the comfort of a tall stool in the brand new Coffee Guy store at I-10 and Highway 6/Addicks. Some of you may know the Coffee Guy as that cute little place at Richmond and Sage that mostly caters to a drive-thru crowd. They’ve decided to expand their business and have moved out to this swank new shop they built and designed from the ground up. The old place was so small it wasn’t really conducive to lounging the way most coffee shops are, plus it didn’t have any internet access, a requisite feature these days. I can’t speak for the coffee, because I’m not a coffee guy myself, but I can safely say that they have the best hot chocolate I’ve had anywhere—think multiple layers of whipped cream, caramel syrup, and chocolate syrup. However I have heard from people who do know coffee that The Coffee Guy at their previous location was quite good and I don’t see why this one should be any different.

With the new design they obviously had high-tech coffee lovers in mind, with power outlets everywhere, wi-fi and wired internet access, a big plasma TV, and lots of seats and tables. I can’t vouch for the coffee, but what I can vouch for is their internet connection, which has speeds consistent with a high-end cable connection. Connect to SSID TheCoffeeGuy and you’re good to go. I’ll have to tell my friends in the Houston Wireless Users Group about this. Here’s a few pictures I snapped:

Laptop counter, my laptop, and the plasma TV

I was going to end this on a bright note and recommend you try the Coffee Guy out, but Elissa (who works here) just tricked me into eating what’s called an “espresso pancake” by disguising it as a cookie, so I’m going to say whatever you do, do not visit or patronize The Coffee Guy. Unless of course you like good drinks and free internet.

How could Elissa do such a thing? Look at how evil she is! (She’s even evil looking with real cookies.) Anyway if you do decide to visit, I can tell you when Elissa isn’t working so it’ll be safe. Here’s their address:

14725 Katy Freeway
Houston, Texas 77079

  1. it’s actually 14725 katy freeway. but everyone should know that it’s just I-10 and highway 6. if you’re coming on I-10 west, turn left at the highway 6 stop light and it’s to your immediate left after that (we’re on the very corner!). if you’re coming from I-10 east, we’re right after the light and to your right. and our coffee is much better than starbucks so come on down.

(thanks for the plug, matt. and nobody else will get an espresso pancake. 😛 )

  2. note to all who read this: i don’t really have a double chin. it’s an unfortunate accident (coincidence?) that both of those photos feature a turtle face.

  3. It’s always welcome news to hear of a new locally-owned coffee house. But since I live out here in Clear Lake, it’s BFE to me. If I ever find myself wandering out there, I’ll stop by.

And we all know that Elissa is more lovely in person than any of her photos, good or bad.

  4. Hm. Hmmm….. That’s about 10 minutes from my apartment. Sweet; I’ll have to check it out soon. I’ll be back with a report on the coffee, then, and shun the hot chocolate.

  5. Sounds like a wonderful place. I was going to say that I’ll have to point it out to Coffee Mike, but I should have known that his coffee vibe would have found it already! 😉

  6. I think it should still take talent to make a proper shot of espresso and a proper froth to a capuccino. And thats what The Coffee Guy offers ,so go check it out.

  7. patrick my wife margo works with patsy and we are interested in a possible franchise if at sometime they become available. my #is w 512-782-6825 h 512-292-7182 c 512-426=9513 please let me know something

  8. I absolutely love the Coffee Guy. I think it’s far better than Starbucks or any other coffee house I’ve ever been to. I used to go every morning on my way to work when they were located off of Richmond. It was almost an addiction to have my Mocha Frap with chocolate sliding down the sides of the cup and a bacon and cheese croissant every morning. I lost weight when they moved! I haven’t been back since the move but now that I know where the new store is located I’ll be in for my fix soon. The drive will be worth it!

  9. Hi, I would like to know , Does your company use any type of labels for your coffee products. Please respone.

  10. Hey, I was wondering when/where will the new coffee guy cafe re-open again. I NEED SOME COFFEE FROM THERE. I love their stuff, and its a shame that barely anyone I know knows when/where they are going to re-open or even IF they are going to or not.

If someone knows any information, I’d greatly appreciate it if they would post a message of something.

    Thank you….Sarah Sharafeldin.
