I'm still recovering from WordCamp in some ways, it was such a rush this week almost seems like a vacation. The best summary of posts regarding the event is on [gonzo]musings, The WordCamp 2006 Overview & Wrapup – from 7875 Miles Away. I'm very happy with how the event went, we had well over 300 brilliant and engaging make it a part of their day. There were a ton of great ideas and participation happening from all corners, especially the interaction during the State of the Word discussion. I also learned a ton and next year we will have a better sign-in process, naptime after BBQ, clearer tracks for devs vs. users, and a bit more lead time. Thank you so much to everyone who came out, it was a really magical day. Now I just need to figure out what to do with the 20 pounds of Memphis Minnie's brisket in my fridge.
Glad it went well! Dates didn’t work out this year, but hopefully I’ll be down next time!
I just wanted to say thanks for putting this on for the community. I thought it went well…I do agree with you on the user and dev tracks. Everything that I wanted to get out of it was little too over most peoples heads. But it was great seeing everyone bonding over wordpress. Great effort on everyone that helped out with putting wordcamp on for us and I will defientely be back next year. Thanks!!!
Thanks, Matt! I learned a lot, but more importantly, I met tons of great people. Can’t wait for the next one, and do we we have to wait a whole year? Can we have WordCamp 2006.2?
It’s a little known secret that the only consulting I still do is actually is solely exchange for BBQ and good discussion.
Random but totally true.
Learning a few things while having fun is a good thing. The musical interludes was a nice touch. I think separate user & dev tracks is an excellent enhancement. Good Job!
I’ll take some brisket.
WordCamp 2007 – Vancouver, BC, perhaps? :^)
Thanks for the link Matt – I hope I managed to give a feel for how it all went down for those who couldn’t make it.
And kudos to you – it looks to have been a major success.
Next year I hope to be under a mile away rather than 7875 miles 🙂
Thanks Matt! I had a great time and learned a lot. I was so inspired that I converted my (previously postnuked) website to wordpress yesterday! Well, tons of comment spam had something to do with it too, but it is nice to be able to take advantage of current web technologies and not be stuck in 2003 anymore 🙂
Share the brisket in the next (hopefully) European WordCamp 🙂 Pretty please~!
Thanks for WordCamp, and all the great work you do with WordPress. It’s a great platform.
I also wanted to thank you for taking some time to answer some of my questions between sessions. I very much appreciate it.
Great conference Matt! I really enjoyed hearing from fellow WordPress users about what’s working for them and what they are struggling with.
The bbq wasn’t bad either!
Damn … I’m on the wrong side of the country. (and out of vacation days)
We need an east coast camp! 🙂
Hey I don’t suppose all of the sessions were videotaped and could be put online for those of us who couldn’t attend but would still like to see the discussions?
🙂
It was a cool conference Matt. I thought you guys did a great job, and provided your users with a fantastic opportunity to get to know WP and it’s creators more.
I took away some valuable information, and plan on attending future events.
Here is a link to some more photos from the State of the Word. Thanks for WordCamp, etc… 🙂

Hey Matt wordcamp was an excellent event, well organised and the talks that I heard were interesting. It was good to put faces to names and to meet other WP users. Wish I had more time to hang around on the day but I am looking forward to the next gig!
