  1. Well, I’d miss the internet if I didn’t have it, but at the same time my whole life doesn’t revolve around social websites, either. I check Facebook about once a day, because I do have relatives and friends from the South Pacific, Australia, Britain and Europe on there, Twitter I usually use for blog updates and an occasional stray tweet here and there, that’s about it. You have to remember the so called “social websites” are social engineering at it’s best! The less you “share” on them, the better.

  2. I’m not as addicted as some of the people in that article. Honest. I can quit any time I want… 🙂

I love Facebook, etc. because I have family and friends spread all over the country. Since I hate phone calls, FB really does serve as an important part of my social experience. Twitter – not so much. Google+ I have yet to even try. Then there’s my WP blog – my grandparents are my biggest (perhaps only) fans.

  3. Unbelievable but so true. Earlier this month we had no electricity 4 days in the row due to heavy storm in Illinois. As Donnacha said WordPress is true heroin indeed. Honestly I was thinking that end of the world came upon us.

Great share, I missed that earlier.

  4. I was recently unplugged for a week (got married) and it was incredible how much I missed while I was gone.

I don’t know if I’m addicted per se, but my life is just so intertwined with working on the web for work and projects that it’s become something that I can’t live without. Sure, I could exist on this planet without it, but I couldn’t do what I do for a living and that’s what makes it so important to me.

  5. As a parent, I worry that my kids will have carpal tunnel, vision problems & need a 12-step program for their tech addictions. Ex.My 12-yr-old’s summer camp request this yr: WordCamp! (BTW, great job WordCamp Columbus!) I support technology, in moderation, as it’s here to stay, has many benefits, & is truly a “skill set” required of today’s youth.

  6. Does that make their parent software companies the tobacco companies of our times?

It can take a while for the damaging effects of social fad to appear.

Smoking led to cancer … what will the Internet (as it currently is) lead to? I would think nervous disorders!
