Voting Machines

Voting machine glitch during demo, Murphy’s law applies to elections as well. It sounds like Sequoia is trying to do the right thing. I can’t think of a single good reason not to have a hard paper copy of every vote. “Election officials say that putting printers on voting machines would create problems for poll workers if the printers break down or run out of paper, and the paper records will cause long poll lines with voters taking more time to check the record.” Oh no! People would be checking their votes! We don’t want that. I will personally donate to the paper fund if they’re really that worried they’re going to run out.

Tramadol Attack

Just had a spam attack, about 90 comments over the course of two hours I was away from the computer. Not a single one is visible because every one was caught by my filter. How to delete them all? Comments Mass edit mode → Search for IP → Check all → Delete checked. Basically less than five clicks to delete 90 comments. The search could have keyed on any part of the name, email, or comment. It took longer to write this sentence than it took to delete two hours of spammers work. This isn’t a new 1.3 feature, this has been in WordPress for months.

Sourceforge Woes

Sourceforge seems to have borked parts of the WordPress CVS repository, replacing files with files from other projects. Needless to say, this makes the CVS a little more bleeding edge than normal. Looking into this now. Might be a good opportunity to move this last critical bit off Sourceforge and switch to Subversion.

iPod Won’t Mount

Weird problem: my iPod shows that it’s charging and it shows up as connected (with full info) in the System Profiler but it doesn’t mount, it doesn’t show up on the desktop or in iTunes. I’ve tried two Firewire cables and a USB cable, so I’m sure it’s not that. If I had to guess I’d say it started after the 10.3.5 update, but I’m not really sure.
