Why don’t you try implement XMPP/Jabber support in WordPress? I mean Jabber notifications, and commenting thru IM Client. It’s fast and nice.
There exists an ATOM over XMPP Pubsub WordPress plugin (via). All we need now are Pubsub ATOM aggregators.
