Ari Levy at CNBC has a great article covering the battle between WordPress and Silver Lake / WP Engine: Why WordPress [co-]founder Matt Mullenweg has gone ‘nuclear’ against tech investing giant Silver Lake.

  1. In situations like this, I always remind myself that there may be a good deal going on behind closed doors that I’m not aware of. Granted, at first glance, Matt’s actions seem precipitous, but after watching him for 20 years, that would be very uncharacteristic behavior.
Upon a closer look, Matt’s response seems to be one of understandable frustration, designed to force the issue. I suspect I’d be inclined to do the same. It’s a shame to see the Automattic crew divided by this issue, but the buyout offer was extremely generous, IMO, particularly for people whose loyalty was questionable.

  2. Related to ACF plugin (win-win situation):

    – Convert ACF Free to ACF Pro without any upsell or license, meant for all users
    – Users will notice this on their own, don’t announce it publicly
    – Put the code on GitHub, so it can be improved further by the community
    – ACF Pro will become obsolete and all users would be happy that they get ACF Pro directly from WordPress repo
