Beeper and Automattic 20

To announce and celebrate the incredible engineering achievement of the Beeper team launching local bridges and their premium model we hosted a fun event in Automattic’s space in NYC. The app side of Automattic does some amazing work, and the applications themselves are pretty well known and reviewed, but many don’t know they’re part of Automattic, so it was a good opportunity to tell that side of our story a bit. Here’s the video from the event:

And if you’ve ever wanted to get better control over your instant messages, regardless of what network they may be on, definitely check out Beeper. I find it especially useful on desktop, like a Superhuman for messaging.

  1. Hey freedom zerO- love the focus on this new product Beeper. Started playing with a similar concept last year, but mainly focused on functionality that doesn’t exist in chat, specifically around searching within a messsge for an old text. Ie: Search by date, stronger key word search with better ux/ui results reveal. Is this in the roadmap? Br/ teegsontech ps…congrats!

    1. Very much so! Check out the search interface in the desktop Beeper, it has a lot of this already. It’s one of the most-used parts of the app for me.

  2. Nice video.

I have been a Beeper user from the very beginning and was super overjoyed when Automattic acquired Beeper. My favorite apps seems to be acquired by you guys, first Pocket Casts, then, Day One and now beeper. May the force be with you.

Matt, you ended the event by saying You Get Beeper… I am pretty sure you were pointing at me in the video. At least that’s how it felt to me. To that end, where is my Beeper lol

    Sending positive vibes from Australia

  3. Hi Matt,

thank you for sharing this video.

I noticed that the Gravatar logo (/team?) was moved to the messaging organization unit, but Gravatar was not mentioned at all in the video.

So what is the story ( / business model) for (globally recognized) avatars? Selling .link domains to claim your identity on the web? (I’m German, sorry if this sounded to harsh.)

Or is that MCP for Gravatar (https://github.com/Automattic/mcp-server-gravatar) business model.

  4. Beeper looks very interesting. It’s on my list of new apps to try out, especially on my laptop. Also I tried the Dayone app before. I found that the pdf export function didn’t work very well. By that I mean the text in the pdf was very small and there was no option to change the text size for exporting. Not a total loss though. Been a WordPress(.com) user since around 2012. So I always have somewhere to post my thoughts. Anyway that was a nice presentation video for Beeper. I enjoyed it. It’s nice to see a company try to offer a working solution for managing all of these modern chat platforms.

  5. Incredible achievement by the Beeper team unifying fragmented messaging platforms into a streamlined, secure experience is no small feat. Great to see Automattic supporting this kind of innovation while continuing to empower users and keep the open web at the heart of everything. Looking forward to seeing how Beeper continues to evolve!
