Thanks to the wonderful Kymberlie (isn’t that an interesting spelling?) I have been able to set up a Klipfolio for this site, which you can get by clicking here. I’ve also added an item to the menu, so if you put it off for a month and the entry has faded into the archives, they’ll be a convenient link where you can still get this channel. This is a very useful tool, and since I’ve started using it I have become addicted to the live updates that it delivers.

Driving Story
You know how sometimes when you’re walking under a tree after it’s rained and someone shakes a branch while you’re under it and it drips all its drops on you? Something similar happened to me while I was driving today down Weslayan in West University, a street which doesn’t commonly have eighteen-wheelers on it, but I was behind one. Anyway this huge moving truck would shake all the trees when it went under them and they would rain on me. My car emerged slightly wet, but covered in flowers, so this cloud had a silver lining.
MySQL Fork
It seems that as of today, I think, MySQL 4 is now going to be available in two flavors, Pro and Classic. The Pro version will have transaction support, while Classic is a “version optimized for raw speed without transactions.” It took me a few minutes to find explinations of each, here’s their product information page.
You Know It’s Late When . . .
You start thinking $ indicates the start of a string and ^ means the end in your regular expressions. (It’s actually the opposite.)
Zeitgeist
The Zeitgeist for this site is now officially online, though it still needs some work. My plan is to add a new statistic to it every night for two weeks, so check it often to see what’s new. It’s great practice for my SQL and PHP skills, and I highly recommend making your own if you would like to hone your programming chops. I also have a similar page over at Mullenweg.com that gives some interesting info gleaned from our genealogical database, though I must admit the life expentancy data isn’t heartening! If you have any ideas for possible statistics for this site leave a comment and I promise I’ll implement every feasible idea.
Bob the Angry Flower
How better to learn about the proper use of apostrophes then from an angry flower? An appropiate follow-up to the smart quote script I just posted :).
Just Rewards
Don’t you just love it when everyone’s favorite recording industry association is hacked to serve illegal MP3 files?
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Currently Playing
You may have noticed that the Currently Playing sidebar is now back online, afer about 14 days of being out of commission. This was because of a combonition of my desktop computer’s grahpics card going wonky and Winamp3 coming out. I really don’t like version 3 very much and I’m going to wait a couple of iterations before I try it again. Right now I’m enjoying my favorite pianist of the moment, Bill Evans.
MySQL 4.03 Bug
I seem to have stumbled across a bug in MySQL that crashes the MySQL server every time a query is run. For that reason the comments on this page are going to be disabled until I can get it worked out. The good news is that all entries now have trackback enabled and I’ll post more about that as soon as the comment thing is taken care of.
Life is . . .
Good food, nice night with friends, a little past midnight, windows down, 95 miles per hour on Main/90, Beautiful Day on the stereo. Life is good.
At College
Well I just had my first college class, and now I have one hour of downtime before the next, and I’m pleasantly suprised to find an open wireless connection in the building I’m waiting in. Actually I just found a page that lists all the locations that wireless is supposively available, although where I am right now isn’t even listed, so there may be more hidden goodies like this throughout the campus. More updates later!
Release
Sleep finally came but I had bad nightmare about my cat. First thing when I woke up I checked her, and she was purring contently on a pillow. Strange how dreams can sometimes be so real and make you worry about tangible things as a result of an intangible and imaginary experience.
Comic Debut
I’m proud to say I have made my comic art debut in one of Josh’s wonderful comics. Bling Bling — also making an appearence is the lovely Sarah in the first frame.
Austin Gates
More proof that Microsoft ‘thinks different’ too, here is Bill Gates dressed up like Austin Powers.
MySQL 4.02
I really wish all alpha releases ran this well. Uptime on 4.01 was 113 days, let’s see how well 4.02 does. MySQL is a popular open–source database that is free (as in beer) and runs many database–driven websites, such as this one.
Centrist?
According to the world’s smallest political quiz I’m right on the board of libertarian, conservative, and centrist. It’s comfortable here.

Chilling EFFects
Monitoring the legal climate for Internet activity. This is a “joint project of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, University of San Francisco, and University of Maine law school clinics,” and it looks like it is going to be a great source of information in the future.
User Interface on Mac and Windows
I just came across an interesting article that examines the flaws and advantages of several different user interface designs across platforms. This is the kind of things I’ve started to think a lot more about when I’m working on web pages.
Bath Tissue?
Since when did they start calling toilet paper ‘bath tissue’ in the grocery store? Not to mention they moved everything around in the Randall’s I’ve been going to my entire life. It was strange, and unfamiliar. I’m starting to have second thoughts about staying in the dorms next year.
