Om Malik on Broadband: Phone companies scamming millions from consumers. I have T-Mobile and paid $24 this month on top of a service plan that’s $50. To their credit only two of the charges look very shady and I still think that’s a bargain considering I used over 2000 minutes. (Even though Om’s blog has a trackback link, I can’t see how to send him a trackback. Is it a secret?)

As much as I like the people doing it I hope sIFR Flash text replacement doesn’t take off. It slows my browser to a crawl and is used far too much in situations where images and CSS image replacement could be used. (Also looks funny with Adblock but that’s nobody’s fault.

This Ask MetaFilter thread on blogware gives WordPress surprisingly little love. There’s not much substantive there, but it’s interesting to see how a subset of the MF audience reacted to the question. (Metafilter registration is still closed, so if you want to add to that thread you can’t.)

Between the Lines, the ZDnet WordPress blog, is the single biggest blog referrer to wordpress.org. This is your friendly reminder that it’s the end of the month so check out all your stats. (And pay your bills!) Another tidbit: 55% of wordpress.org’s visitors use non-IE browsers. This is definitely a trend.

Jon Hicks looks at Textpattern 2 months on. Personally I dig Textpattern quite a bit though some of its limitations frustrate me. If TxP was released earlier (and licensed differently) WordPress might not exist today…

Carthik finds the Old Versions of WordPress. WordPress.org is full of hidden gardens like that, it’s interesting to see people come across them and link them. Now I just need to get the site moved over to my new CMS.

Weblog Tools Collection — Plageurism in blogging, now we just need “spellchecking in blogging.” Good article nonetheless. (Anyone who copies and pastes it into my comments doesn’t get a cookie.)

Blimey! Just a few days up and Jonas has already stolen Dougal’s WordPress filter. Piracy on the Open Source seas (where it’s all legal).

I’m really enjoying Doug’s Bleached un-design. I’m totally going to crib his proportions for a design I’m working on. As Dinah recently noted, it’s an inspiring site to dig through.

Lee Wilkins has switched from MT (which he bought) and is now blogging with WordPress. He’s been doing a few neat audio and video posts using some different services.
