Party was great, thanks to everyone for coming out. The tag for the night is wordpress100k.

100k
Podz caught the counter at 100,000 yesterday, of course the party tonight is going to be a lot of fun. We might need to call it the 105k party though.
100k and Counting
WordPress 100,000 Party, and here’s the Evite. This is going to be a lot of fun. 🙂
Open Source Business Conference
So there is an Open Source Business Conference happening in a few weeks a few blocks away from me and I just randomly came across the site. After SxSW, reading about OSBC is like being in another world: it’s $1500 to go, only two days long, the language on the site is sickeningly corporate, and I haven’t heard of a single person there. Then again, this is an “open source” conference with Microsoft as a platinum sponsor. A real Open Source conference would have no fees, everything would be web streamed, the line between speakers and attendees would be thin or non-existant, and the topics would not focus so much on money. Actually, it would be a bit like Bloggercon.
Panels Finished
My last panel was yesterday at 5 PM so now I’m taking as much time as I can to catch the panels that are left and learn a few things. Speaking was more stressful than I expected but most of the feedback was good. I still need to check out the web feedback though, as people are probably more candid online than when they’re shaking your hand.
SxSW Blogging Begins
Time to break out the old SxSW (South by Southwest) category again, as I depart in just a few short hours on my journey back to my home state of Texas and to Austin, a town which I love. This year is going to be very different for me than the last two because where before I was a naïve young boy sitting in the audience starstruck at all the amazing people there, and now I’m a naïve young boy sitting on a panel starstruck at all the amazing people there. So the seating arrangement has changed a little bit, but not much else. The only other difference is last year WordPress had maybe 2,000 users (tops) and now we have about 40x that.
I just got a new memory card for my camera and I’m all charged up to photoblog the entire event as I have years past, but I don’t know if this year if I can do 0-day photos as I did before, but I’ll try to catch up when I can. Even though all the cool kids will be using Flickr this year I’m going to put mine on my photolog because I don’t want to duplicate effort and use up my limited Flickr bandwidth. The tags should be fun to watch though.
Quick public service announcement: tunnel your traffic or use SSL, far too many people sniff the networks at these things.
I’m going to be on three panels this year, I’ve linked each from the sidebar and I’ll post more about each as they approach.
If you’re a Photo Matt reader or a Ping-O-Matic or WordPress evangelist and you see my please introduce yourself or say hi, I’d love to meet everyone there.
Party Blogroll
I finally updated the party entry with a partial party blogroll.
Upgrade Music
Party Pics
Some pictures from the party last night, the first I’ve seen so far. People didn’t clear out until almost 3 AM, I’m still recovering. I also ended up with an extra Powerbook, which I’m sure someone will claim. 🙂 I heard the Flickr tag will be upgradeparty. Technorati tag: upgradeparty.
Party Music
Music for the party tonight? Ellington of course, playing with and compisitions by Billy Strayhorn.
Party Update
It’s rainy and chilly, but the party is still on in full force. I updated the entry with some frequently asked questions. I’m really excited about some of the folks coming out, it’ll be a great mix. Perhaps some of the writers can help me with the 1.5 release announcement. *duck*
Upgrade Partay
WordPress 1.5 upgrade party on Tuesday. I had originally planned for it to be Monday, but forgot about that whole Valentine thing. If you want to host an upgrade party in your area, let me know!
Meetup Aftermath
Thanks to everyone who came out on such short notice. It was great seeing Chris Messina, Scott Beale, Marc Weidenbaum, Om Malik, Nicole Lee, Glenda B, Ryan King, Craig Cook.
San Francisco Meetup
So the plan is today Saturday at 2 PM at the Chaat Cafe on 3rd and Folsom we’ll have a WordPress late lunch for all the people in the area who are interested in the latest and greatest in weblog software. It’s not a meetup proper but should be fun nonetheless.
Dallas Meetup
Ryan is doing the WP meetup in Dallas tomorrow. I’ve been busy at work and forgot that was this weekend, I think we’re too late to do the official Meetup thing but I’d be willing to meet some San Francisco WordPress people for coffee tomorrow afternoon.
Louisiana WordPresser
Web log Meetup group searches for members.
“I’d rather blog than talk on the phone,” he said. “I’ll blog four or five entries a weekend. I’ll just sit there watching movies or listening to music and spend about 10 hours (blogging). Just whenever the mood strikes me.”
Blogger Lunch Photos
Photos from the blogger lunch today. Please add notes with people’s names!
Merlin Mann
I met Merlin Mann last night at the Creative Commons party last night and even saw the hipster PDA in action. Pretty neat stuff, I may even make the 43 Folders meetup on Tuesday Wednesday, but first I should probably finish up GTD. (I’ve never gotten to Part Three, which may speak for itself.)
Slashdotting
When I saw Giga Om at Jay’s lunch yesterday he happily informed me that his site, which is now on WordPress 1.5, handled Slashdottings two days in a row and all of the traffic from the LJ/6A story without a hiccup. I asked if he was running Staticize which increases the performance of WP significantly and he said no. (!)
In Boston
Okay so I’m finally here in chilly Boston, living it up. I’m open to recommendations on places to eat, things to do, and people to see. (Besides the Boston WordPress Meetup this Saturday.)
