Alaska Day 7
Leaving the takeout point, Kavik camp (one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been), arriving back in Fairbanks.

Many hours of rowing, a double rainbow, arriving at takeout point, costumes, and killer squirrels.
Alaska Day 4
A day of “rest” that ended up being a 8 hour hike in the tussocks (which are really hard to walk through), up to Red Hill, some interesting birds, tracks, bones, skulls, and two moose.
Alaska Day 3
After swimming in the river the previous day, work up to snow in the morning. Playing with ice fragments and a nice hike.
Alaska Day 2
First day of really rafting down the Canning river.
Flying to Camp in Alaska
First day in Alaska, flying toward start point on the Canning River in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.
Balloon Ride
Went for Napa / Vacaville hot air balloon ride with Janitorial team at Automattic, had dinner at 54 Mint, and caught the end of the symphony masquerade ball in San Francisco. Here are Nick’s pictures from the same day.
West Wing Tour
The thing about the White House West Wing tour is they don’t really let you take pictures, except at the door before you go in and after, and at both places they have terrible lighting. Usually I ignore this and snap clandestinely but that seemed like a bad idea in this case and I didn’t want to get tackled by Secret Service. (I’m surprised they let me take my big honking D3S in at all!) The tour was excellent, very humbling to be in a place where so much history has happened, and might have happened just a few hours before you got there. Anyway here are some before and after shots of the tour.

Monet and Bulgari Exhibits

Basquiat exhibit, Snow in Paris
Went to Basquiat exhibit, wandering around Paris in the snow, lunch with Elliot, Social Media Club, Le Web pre-party, some tripe.
Hotel Costes, Guy Savoy, George V
Drinks at Hotel Costes, a fantastic Le Web dinner at Guy Savoy’s restaurant including some peaks behind the scenes and a tour of the kitchen, and closing out the night with some cognac at George V. A lovely night.
