There is a new Squeezebox out, and it looks awesome. I just wish they hadn’t raised the price so much! I really need 3 to do what I want to do, which is full multi-room audio, but at that price it may be economical just to have someone come out and wire the place up.
Google Reviews
So Google has done what hReview dreams of in the future, and they’ve done it without boiling the ocean and making everyone change their markup. If we all do million dollar markup we can enable multi-million dollar search startups to compete with billion dollar giants, with the obvious economic incentive for the hoi polloi being increased traffic from placement in the content aggregators.
Newsmap
I’ve been mentioning Newsmap to people lately so I thought I’d link to it here because it has a terrible URI and I always forget the name.

High Traffic Sites
Just got this email, “I am the artist manager for Bob Ricci, famous parody artist. Our site www.BobRicci.com (http://community.bobricci.com) caters to more than 350,000 hits a day from fans worldwide. I wanted to let you know that in our years of being online and having to support such a large amount of global traffic WordPress.org is the only software we have found that is able to withstand the amount of traffic and offer us a community/news service in the online marketplace.” Sweet!
Sydney Zoo & Opera House
A day at the famous Sydney Zoo, including the open air bird show and a yawning tiger. Dinner across from the opera house.
WP in NewsForge
I had missed this great Newsforge review of WordPress when it came out.
Pibb is Web meets IRC
Pibb is a really interesting-looking chat website. Think IRC meets Meebo, with permalinks, RSS, and other cool stuff like that. It’s fast! You can sign in with your WordPress.com URL as your OpenID. They say Ma.gnolia.com is using it for support, that could be interesting. Someone already started a WordPress channel.
In Seattle
New York was a blast, but now I’m all the way on the other side of the country in chilly Seattle. There are apparently quite a few conferences going on here this week so booking a hotel was a nightmare, the selection was very limited, but on the plus side I ended up on one of the top floors of the Sheraton and the view is great. Gnomedex looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun and have a ton of good information. We’re going to do a WordPress BoF or party or open source bar or something, so put your name on the list on this page. I didn’t get to meet a whole lot of people in NY because my schedule was so tight, so hopefully I can catch up in Seattle.
Web Design Patterns
Nice overview of different Web Design Patterns. Happy 4th!
WP in MacAddict
A few people have written in to point out WordPress is in MacAddict this month as well. Last time I went to Border’s to pick up Linux Journal they didn’t have it so I’ll try again today and pick up both. When it’s all done I’ll try to post pictures.
Blog Census
Is anyone doing anything to replace or update the Blog Census? It still doesn’t count WordPress blogs, two years later, and that there are only 3 Textpattern blogs. Right now at Ping-O-Matic we have a database of over 5.6 million blogs, if anyone has a smart crawler I could throw at that list it’d be great to get a more realistic view of the State of the Blogosphere.
Online Journalism Review

Lucky Orbitz
I just booked a flight to Vegas for the IP4IT conference, where I’m on a panel with Mr. Wikipedia Jimmy Wales, and the Orbitz waiting graphic popped up a talk bubble that said “Say hi to lady luck for me.” How nice! It’s little things like that which make me use Orbitz more and more, not to mention the prices it gives me are great. I’m not looking forward to booking a Thanksgiving ticket to Houston, though. (BTW, if there are any Vegas WP users drop me an email and we may be able to get together, though I’m only there for the day.)
Foundation to Corporation
Mozilla moves Firefox, other products, under for-profit umbrella, interesting, and ultimately for the better I think.
RSS Ping
RSS Ping has launched! “RSS Ping combines RSS item metadata with site update information.” Call it Ping 2.0. π See also: David’s post about it.

It looks like Textdrive has been sold to Joyent. (Look at the footer.) Hosting 2.0? π Here’s the press release and forum post.
