I’m in Robert Scoble’s session and there was a minor episode between Bob Wyman and Dave Winer and a few people left, but I think things have calmed down a bit. What’s really striking me right now is how loud it is even though no one is talking. The clatter of everyone typing makes it sound like it’s drizzling outside. Lawrence Lessig is a very loud typist.
Today the Jetpack plugin turns five years old. Who woulda thunk it? It’s one of the most popular plugins in WP history, and sites that include it as part of their WordPress install are more likely to to have engaged and active users — we’ve even seen it reduce churn on major web hosts. While there’s been a lot that’s happened in the Jetpack plugin so far, what’s around the corner has me even more excited. 😀 🚀 P.S. Check out that new domain.
Louis Pasteur is credited with the observation that chance can only help the well-prepared mind. I also think that my long string of lucky breaks can be credited to my mode of paying attention: I look at funny things and never hesitate to ask questions. Most people would not have noticed the dirty blackboard, or looked at the article that my uncle gave me because he was not interested.

Windows for Mac
I just installed Windows Media Player for Mac. Doesn’t that sound wrong? Sometimes Microsoft’s naming and branding really throws me for a loop. Is there a Windows Media Player for Linux?
Net Income Show
Tomorrow I’m going to be on the web radio show Net Income. That entry mentions my Wikipedia page, which oh-my-goodness has an awful picture.

TextMate PHP Completion

SxSW Brochure
If you check out the SxSW Interactive brochure that they’re mailing to people it has a picture from my photolog on the fourth page. (They also use it on this page.) Groovy. 🙂 This year’s SxSW is going to rock, by the way.
More on SxSW
I am a confirmed speaker for South by Southwest (SxSW) 2005.
Really great article from my friend Hunter Walk on #Reinventing the Chamber of Commerce, which is especially relevant given how the US Chamber of Commerce has been tending to side with the MPAA and RIAA rather than actual small businesses, startups, and tech communities.
Address Change
Those of you who I had given my address to as “333” please change that to “355.” Sorry for the confusion! I just got a heap of Christmas cards today that had gone to the wrong address.

Some people responded with regular resumes, replying as images, but Negele “Hopsey” Hospedales decided to make a website on WordPress.com:

The happy ending is written up in Billboard: he got the gig and went on tour with Chance. Hospey wrote a great article on it himself: How To Work For Your Favourite Rapper.
I love USB, cables, and charging things. So MacRumors comparison of different wired and wireless charging options and speed for the iPhone X is my catnip. tl; dr: USB-C + USB-C-to-Lightning cable gives you far and away the fastest times. I've found this true for the iPad Pro as well.
Shaktown
Visited a well being hand-dug with dynamite, a drilled well hitting water, and Shak’s sites in Seglemen, Ethiopia.
The video from last night’s PandoMonthly interview isn’t up yet, but there have been five blog posts that came out of it on their site if you want some of the highlights: Facebook, You’ve Got a Friend: Matt Mullenweg Thinks You Own the Future of Advertising; Distributed Workforces are All About Results; Matt Mullenweg and the Cult of WordPress; I’m Worried That Silicon Valley Might Be Destroying the World; WordPress and Tumblr are Complementary, WordPress Founder Says.
San Francisco Meetup
So the plan is today Saturday at 2 PM at the Chaat Cafe on 3rd and Folsom we’ll have a WordPress late lunch for all the people in the area who are interested in the latest and greatest in weblog software. It’s not a meetup proper but should be fun nonetheless.
More Santorini
Exploring via car: Red beach, lighthouse, time-lapse sunset.
Snaps Along the Camino
I walked a week’s worth of the Portuguese path of the Camino de Santiago with a few friends, which was a nice bookend to my Rebirth and Yellow Arrows post at the beginning of last year. My feet are sore, and I have the first significant knee pain which has given me newfound empathy for the people I love who struggle with their knees. I traveled light and just brought an iPhone XS as my camera, and these are a few snaps of things I saw along the trail.
