Barry talks about keeping track of 300 servers.

Pownce
I’m really enjoying Pownce.
Cluster Tail
Cluster Tail “multiplexes lots of SSH connections, to invoke tail -f on a large set of machines or log files.”
Gelato CMS
Gelato CMS is an open source implementation of the tumblelog concept, as popularized on Tumblr. I’m a big fan of the Tumblelog concept, it’s not dissimilar to what I do here and on matt.wordpress, but I’d love to see it implemented as a WordPress theme. Hat tip: Ryan.
WPMU-based Social Network
Chickspeak is a WordPress MU based social network. “I recently completed my biggest project yet; a fully fledged social network aimed at female college students. The difference? It’s built on WordPress MU.”
Megatrondon, iPhone AIM Client
Just Blaze, hip-hop producer and WordPress user, has reviewed the iPhone. Includes a video of an AIM client at the end, is that ebuddy?
Norati
Tantek Çelik is leaving Technorati, no word on his blog about the move yet. This is surprising, to say the least. Excited to see what he moves to next.
iPhone Disappointment
The process of buying the Apple iPhone was pretty easy. Glenda and I walked into a store in Daly City at about 8:30 PM and each ordered one, and walked out. No lines. The device is physically much more elegant and smaller than I expected, and the iTunes-integrated signup process was fairly smooth. However, it’s been hours now and still no activation, which means I have a very expensive paperweight, which is worse than not having it at all. Update: Approximately 16 hours after my inital setup, I now have a working phone. I was contemplating taking it back, but I’m glad I didn’t.
The Police Blogs
I’m in Dallas where I saw The Police with my sister. (The tickets were her birthday present.) Afterward I was checking out their respective website and it looks like Andy Summers, the guitarist, has a WordPress blog. His site also has some interesting essays and photography.
Mossberg iPhone Review
Walt Mossberg has his review of the iPhone up, with an accompanying video. I would also link to the NY Times review, which had some differing opinions, but when I went back to the page to get the link it wanted me to login. Welcome to 2007. Both Mossberg and Pogue dug the keyboard… after a few days.
Google Apps IMAP
Google apps now supports importing mail from IMAP, which means for me it just got 1000x more interesting. I have a Gmail account I use purely for archival but I only started a few months ago and so I often just resort to grep for searching the years of archives before that.
Web Storage Sites
Web storage sites loom as next big thing says CNET… in 1999.
Yahoo’s new CEO
Jerry Yang announced he was becoming Yahoo’s CEO on Yodel Anecdotal, their WordPress blog.
Airport Power Outlets
Wifi is pretty much a given these days, I want to see a website about which airports have the best power outlets.
Playstation Blog
The Sony Playstation now has a blog and they’re using WordPress. Hat tip: smikwily.
MT OS
I am settled back from Greece and quite a bit happened while I was unplugged. I want to belatedly congratulate the Movable Type team for committing to GPL for MT4, and wish them best of luck in rebuilding their developer community. The news has been written about nearly everywhere, rightly so; Lisa has a blog round-up.
Facebook Platform
I actually dig the Facebook platform, but this quote is hilarious:
“And looking over press coverage of the announcement today, you’d think it was the late ’90s and Six Degrees had made Flooz its official currency and offered free Kozmo.com deliveries to all its members.”
Dvorak Typists
I just found out Nathan Myhrvold, the evil genius buying all the patents, is a Dvorak typist. I started typing Dvorak about 8 years ago, and fellow Automattician Michael Adams is also a Dvorak devotee. So if you want to be CTO of Microsoft, or do an Open Source web project (bbPress, WordPress), you should learn Dvorak. 🙂
Disappearing SSD
As some of you may remember, I’ve been using a 32gb solid state drive in my desktop for a bit not, and I’ve been happy with it. Enough so that I was ready to make the jump to take apart my laptop and retrofit it with a SSD, and Toni was brave enough to volunteer as well. One problem — they’ve disappeared. All of the stores that I could previously find it from don’t have them anymore. Where did all the SSDs go? BTW the best news source I’ve found for SSDs is Engadget’s tag page.
Typepad Pages
Typepad now has Pages. “If you’re a TypePad blogger, we know you’re serious about making a great blog. But what about the parts of your site that don’t fit into your blog? […] And you can even set a Page to be the home page for your blog, so it’s the first thing readers see when they go to your URL.”
